Resident objected to a cross on his city's crest; other residents responded by placing crosses on their lawns.
I actually remember this, this was a pretty cool thing actually. Really promoted solidarity in a community, and democracy (It was one person opposed to the greater populace) and it also had a lot to do with tradition and history aside from the matter of faith.
